Flammable Safety Cabinets

Shop UL/ULC 1275, OSHA, NFPA 30, and ANSI-compliant flammable liquid storage cabinets from FireKing. Sized from 30 to 60 gallons in five color-coded finishes, each cabinet is Union-made in the USA with reinforced double-wall 18-gauge steel construction, 1.5-inch thermal air-gap insulation, and a 10-year structural warranty backed by FireKing's Free After-Fire Replacement Guarantee.

Why Store Flammable Liquids in a Safety Cabinet

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106 and NFPA 30 both require flammable and combustible liquids to be stored in approved safety cabinets once you exceed small work-quantity limits. For most workshops, labs, auto bays, print shops, and industrial facilities, that means anything more than 25 gallons of Class I flammable liquids outside a listed cabinet is a compliance violation and an insurance liability. A UL/ULC 1275-listed cabinet is what your fire marshal, insurance auditor, and OSHA inspector expect to see, and FireKing's cabinets meet or exceed the standard on every measurable criterion.

How to Pick the Right Size

SC30 (30 Gallon): The compact option. Best for small workshops, home garages with more than a few cans of solvent or paint, university teaching labs, and dental or medical offices with small chemical inventories. 43" wide by 18" deep footprint fits along most workbench walls.

SC45 (45 Gallon): The general-purpose industrial standard. Best for mid-sized shops, auto body and mechanical repair, print shops, small manufacturing, and R&D labs. Same 43" wide by 18" deep footprint as the SC30 but 65" tall for two full shelves of capacity.

SC60 (60 Gallon): The largest single-cabinet size NFPA 30 allows. Best for larger commercial operations, warehouses, paint and body facilities, and any operation that would otherwise need two cabinets. Deeper 34" square footprint fits securely against a wall and holds 5-gallon safety cans and small drums side by side.

Color-Coded for What You Store

All five colors meet the same UL/ULC 1275 construction standard — the difference is the trilingual hazard label on the door and the industry-recognized color code that lets a fire marshal, EMT, or unfamiliar visitor identify contents at a glance:

  • Yellow — Flammable liquids (gasoline, solvents, thinners, acetone, ethanol, most cleaning chemicals). The industry-standard default.
  • Red — Combustible liquids (paints, inks, oils, higher-flash-point liquids). Common in body shops, print shops, and paint departments.
  • Green — Pesticides and insecticides. Common in landscaping, agriculture, and pest-control operations.
  • Blue — Corrosives (acids, oxidizers). Used in plating shops, cleaning-chemical storage, and some labs.
  • Platinum — Lab chemicals. The typical choice for research labs, universities, hospitals, and R&D facilities where color coding is dictated by internal safety programs.

Manual-Close vs Auto-Close Doors

Manual-close doors are the OSHA baseline and the more economical option. Doors latch when closed and stay put. Best for most standard installations.

Auto-close doors use a fusible link that melts at 165 degrees Fahrenheit and pulls the doors closed automatically in a fire. Some jurisdictions (specific fire marshals, certain hospital labs, and CA OSHA over-and-above general federal OSHA) require auto-close. Check with your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) if you're unsure.

Freight, Installation, and Bulk Orders

Every FireKing cabinet on this page ships motor-freight from FireKing's factory in New Albany, IN. Yellow and red cabinets typically ship in 7 to 10 business days as stocked colors; green, blue, and platinum are built to order and ship in 8 to 10 weeks. All shipments are curbside delivery on a pallet unless you upgrade to inside delivery at checkout.

Cabinets ship fully assembled — no assembly required. Bolt-down installation is not required by NFPA 30 but is recommended in seismic zones. Every cabinet includes leveling feet for uneven floors and a grounding lug for static-discharge bonding when required.

Ordering 6 or more of any single model? An automatic 10% discount applies at checkout. For facility-wide standardization orders (10+ cabinets, mixed sizes, or custom color runs), call us at 800-207-2259 for a freight-consolidated quote.

Common Questions

Does a flammable safety cabinet need ventilation? No. NFPA 30 does not require venting on flammable liquid storage cabinets. Both bung openings on the sides are shipped with flame arrestors and caps. Only vent if your local AHJ specifically requires it, and only to an OSHA-compliant vent path — never into an occupied space.

Can I stack these cabinets? No. Single-story installation only. NFPA 30 prohibits stacking flammable cabinets.

Do I need a berm underneath? No. Every FireKing cabinet includes an integrated 2-inch leakproof containment sump that handles spill containment per NFPA 30. Adding a secondary berm is only required in specific state or municipal codes above the federal baseline.

Can I paint or repaint the cabinet? Not recommended. UL/ULC certification is tied to the factory finish. Repainting can void your compliance rating.
